Well, it finally happened. After all our talking, planning, and praying... Vanessa and I are engaged!
She was under the impression that I was going to wait until Thanksgiving this year to talk with her father about getting his blessing. Of course, I had something else in mind.
I called her dad on Saturday and talked with him about getting his blessing to ask Vanessa to marry me. The funny thing is, he had talked with her earlier that day and had asked her all about me and how she felt about getting married.
Well, Saturday evening we went on a date to Olive Garden. We had a wonderful dinner together and I later found out that she was expecting something. When we went to bowling with 8 of our friends after dinner, I think her thoughts of us getting engaged were squashed a little.
We bowled two games at lighthouse lanes and then I pulled everyone together. With eight of our close friends there, I said "Vanessa was telling me that her dad asked her about me on the phone today, but what she doesn't know is that I also talked to her dad and asked for his blessing to ask her to marry me." Then I turned to her and told her "Vanessa Joy, I love you with all of my heart, I want to spend the rest of my life with you," (got on my knee) "will you marry me?"
And... SHE SAID YES!!!
