I am anticipating having an awesome testimony to share in the near future about what God has done in our lives, especially financially. James River Assembly is revving up their one campaign to raise money for building at the Wilson's Creek Campus, its a 2 year campaign and God is challenging people. When we turned in our commitment, I put it in the bucket with a prayer. Also, right now we have the fall Speed the Light (STL) drive and we set another God-sized goal with that. And you know whats fun? Is that as we decide to give certain amounts towards our goal, our car ends up needing fixed for about that same amount... But you know what its not our car, its not our money, its God's and He will provide in more ways than we can even imagine.
It's the law of the harvest. In his book, Overflow, Pastor Scotty refers to a message that Pastor John spoke a while ago about the law of the harvest (Pastor John talked about this again at the beginning of the One Campaign), there are three major parts to the law of the harvest. First, "We reap what we sow." A farmer plants corn and gets corn, not pumpkins or cucumbers when its time to harvest. Second, "We reap after we sow." A farmer doesn't have anything to harvest if he doesn't plant anything. Can we except a harvest from God, if we don't plant? Third, "We reap more than we sow." A farmer plants a kernel of corn and its not one piece of corn in return its a stalk full of ears of corn in return.
2 Corinthians 9:6 "The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully." (ESV)
Proverbs 11:24 "One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want." (ESV)
Many people, including myself, doubt our ability to give even a little, but with scripture & teaching on scripture that shows how generous our God is...how can we not give? "God has unlimited resources; He asks us to give because we need to learn to be generous, not because He needs something from us," (p 75, Overflow). I want my character to match God's.
Ephesians 3:20 "God can do anything, you know-far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!" (MSG)
